City creates thousands of permanent job opportunities in Cape Town each year

Over the past year, the City of Cape Town has appointed 2 208 new permanent staff members. This week alone, 175 of these new City employees attended the June induction sessions, which provides on-boarding to those starting their journey with the municipality. The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys, welcomed these individuals earlier today,6 June 2024 at the Parow Civic Centre.
'The City of Cape Town has committed itself to growing jobs as part of the Executive Mayor's strategy. It is exciting that many of the employees I met at the induction session today are under the age of 24 and were EPWP workers prior to securing these permanent positions. This is a positive sign that there is an increase in the number of our young residents entering the employment pool. These individuals have gone through a competitive and fair recruitment and selection process and can finally embark on their career with the City,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.
The following staff members joined team Cape Town this month and were all previously EPWP workers who have now been appointed in the following departments:
• Sihle Mpepuka from Bongweni and Yamkela Dinga from Khayelitsha are now Operators of light equipment at Merrydale Depot in the Recreation and Parks department.
• Vanessa Oormeyer from Eerste River is now a Library Aide at Wynberg Library within the Library and Information Services department.
• Pepsi Menziwa from Delft is now a Technical Assistant in Goodwood within the Public Transport department.
• Liam Murray from Athlone is now a Library Aide in Bridgetown within the Library and Information Services department
Each of these ambitious employees bring unique skills, perspectives, and experiences that will undoubtedly enrich the City's workplace culture.
'The City will continue to offer these individuals with training and learning opportunities to further develop and grow their knowledge and skillset which could open up a bright career and future for them,' said Alderman Uys.
